I've always been an early riser. As soon as I open my eyes for the first time I know there's no going back to sleep. My first conscious thoughts are of what I could be doing if I get out of bed. Sometimes I see the beginnings of this in my kids. This morning after I let the dog out I was sitting in the office reading over my Life Plan when I heard my three year old's voice outside my bedroom door upstairs. To keep everyone else from waking up I came out and whispered to her to come downstairs with me. We came and sat in a recliner, threw a blanket over our legs and thumbed through Robota by Orson Scott Card. It is a novel with great illustrations. The story was too old for her, but it was fun seeing her try to make sense of the unfamiliar images. Soon the others woke and the early morning spell was broken, but while it lasted it was nice to share that time with her.
